Dysport 1×500 iu uses its neurotoxin active ingredient derived from bacteria to inhibit the release of an important chemical in the nervous system. The effects are that corresponding muscles don’t receive the chemical messenger which will usually make muscles begin to contract and spasm.
What can DYSPORT™ do?
DYSPORT™ is available by prescription. It is injected into muscles to treat neck pain and the patients head position which can look abnormal due to cervical Dystonia. Dysport can also be used to treat the look of deep vertical frown lines between the eyebrows which can have a psychological impact on individuals under 65. The effects are only temporary for four months, while muscles are being weakened without the presence of the chemical messenger being inhibited.
Muscles feel tighter, reducing the appearance of frown lines. However treatment will be required after three months when the results begin to fade away.
What is the composition of DYSPORT™?
Botulinum toxin Type A (active)
Inactive ingredients: human albumin, and lactose. DYSPORT™ may contain cow’s milk protein.
Who should not use Dysport?
Children under the age of 18 should refrain from using Dysport as the effects have not been fully clinically researched.
Individuals which other muscle spasm disorders should also not use this medicine. Similarly, it should not be used to treat any other types of wrinkles visible anywhere else.
DYSPORT 500IU is an injection containing abobotulinumtoxinA (Botulinum toxin type A). AbobotulinumtoxinA is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity.
DYSPORT 500IU is used to treat cervical dystonia (severe spasms in the neck muscles).
Dysport 1×500 iu is also used to treat muscle spasms (stiffness) in the upper limbs (elbows, wrists, fingers) or lower limbs (ankles, toes).
DYSPORT 500 IU is also used to temporarily lessen the appearance of facial wrinkles.
Important information
The botulinum toxin contained in Dysport can spread to other body areas beyond where it was injected. This has caused serious life-threatening side effects in some people receiving Dysport, even for cosmetic purposes.
You should not receive Dysport if you are allergic to botulinum toxin or cow’s milk, or if you have an infection, swelling, or muscle weakness in the area where the medicine will be injected.
Call your doctor at once if you have a hoarse voice, drooping eyelids, vision problems, severe muscle weakness, loss of bladder control, or trouble breathing, talking, or swallowing. Some of these effects can occur up to several weeks after receiving a Dysport injection. This injection should be given only by a trained medical professional, even when used for cosmetic purposes. Botox is another brand of botulinum toxin injection. Do not seek botulinum toxin injections from more than one medical professional at a time. If you switch healthcare providers, be sure to tell your new provider how long it has been since your last botulinum toxin injectio.
